Episode 8 – The Setup

The next job was supposed to be simple — meet, exchange, leave. But simple jobs never stay simple.

Jay and Kunle arrived at an abandoned warehouse. The air was tense, too quiet. Suddenly, floodlights snapped on. Rival boys surrounded them, guns raised.

Jay’s blood froze. It was a trap.

Kunle raised his hands slowly, eyes darting. “Jay… I swear I no know about this—”

Jay wasn’t sure if he believed him. Bullets erupted. Chaos. Jay dived behind crates, firing back. Blood sprayed, shouts echoed. By the end, Jay crawled out, panting, with blood on his shirt that wasn’t his own.

They barely escaped alive.

When Jay went home to clean up, he caught Amaka waiting at his door. Her face pale, her eyes furious.

“Your shirt… blood again?” she whispered.

Jay tried to explain, but before he could, she dropped the bomb: “My brother is with the gang you just fought. He told me everything.”

Jay staggered. His world tilted. Amaka — the one good thing in his life — was tied to his enemies.

Amaka whispered, “If you don’t leave this life, Jay, I’ll leave you.”
