Jay-Jay Okocha Reveals His Relationship With Ronaldinho and Why He Left PSG

Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha has opened up about his relationship with Brazilian icon Ronaldinho during their time together at Paris Saint-Germain, while also revealing more about what led to his eventual departure from the French club.

Okocha joined PSG in 1998 and became one of the club's biggest stars. When Ronaldinho arrived in Paris in 2001, the Brazilian was still a young player trying to establish himself in European football.

According to Okocha, he quickly developed a close relationship with Ronaldinho and treated him like a younger brother.

Okocha understood what it was like for a young African or South American player to move to Europe and adjust to a completely different environment, so he tried to help Ronaldinho settle in.

The two also had something important in common: they loved playing football with freedom and entertaining supporters.

Ronaldinho would eventually become one of the greatest players of his generation, but Okocha knew him before the Brazilian became the global superstar remembered for his Barcelona years.

However, while his relationship with Ronaldinho was positive, Okocha's own experience at PSG eventually became complicated.

The Nigerian has previously spoken about his difficult relationship with then-manager Luis Fernandez, who he felt did not trust him enough.

Looking back, Okocha has also admitted that the lack of trophies was one of his biggest disappointments at PSG.

Despite his individual brilliance, the club went through several managerial changes during his four-year spell, making it difficult to build the stability needed to compete consistently for major honours.

Okocha eventually left PSG in 2002 for Bolton Wanderers.

But despite how his PSG career ended, he left Paris with a lasting legacy — and a unique connection to one of football's greatest entertainers.

Before Ronaldinho became a World Cup winner, Champions League winner and Ballon d'Or recipient, he was the young Brazilian in the PSG dressing room whom Okocha helped settle into European football.

That remains one of the most memorable connections from Okocha's time in Paris.
